Getting ready

Posted by
kiwisa (North Shore, New Zealand) on 14 September 2011 in Documentary & Street.

100,000 people streamed into the city to enjoy the opening festivities for the Rugby World Cup. It was very hard to see anything and shuffling through crowds is not my idea of fun. However, I did manage to take a few photos before heading back across the water to Devonport to watch the fireworks.

Good evening Frances,
an interesting costume and theme. I think that that's a hula skirt is what the man wears around his shoulders. Is it so? The man looks thoughtful. I'm curious how it goes on. Have a nice time and all the best.
Dear greetings from Christel

@Christel: The korowai cloak can be decorated with many things, those adorned with feathers (kahu huruhuru) were the most prestigious and indicative of high rank. Feathers from a variety of native birds were used but, when one particular species was used exclusively, such as the kiwi, the cloak was termed a ‘kahu kiwi’.
