#3 MasaiMara Big Five - Black Rhinoceros

Posted by
kiwisa (North Shore, New Zealand) on 18 August 2018 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

In Africa, the big five game animals are the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo. We were fortunate to see the Big 5 in 24 hours - so I will be sharing them over the next days.
The smaller of the rhino species, the black rhinoceros or hook lipped rhino is on the threatened species list due to poaching. This guy was quite a distance from us and beat a hasty retreat when the vehicle got to close.

A superb image. I just hope that the poachers are kept away from killing these animals for their horn. More has to be done to protect these beautiful animals. 5*

Beautiful creatures. Just a slight pity here that one can't see those powerful legs, but you were obviously there after the rainy season had brought some growth to the vegetation! Can't have everything though, and the grass does add some mystery as to what can't be seen.

@dobbino: The grass was very long due to the great rains they had had...so many animals - even giraffe and elephant have hidden legs:)
